POLICIES & GUIDELINES

A. Class Environment:

Parents, guardians, and students can expect that all staff will respect the well-being of each student, treat each student fairly, and encourage each student's growth and self-esteem as unique individuals.  Should any concern or issue arise, please contact the Dance Committee at DanceCentralHSA@gmail.com.

B.        Expectations and Etiquette for Dancers:

  • Dancers are to arrive on time and prepared for class.  This includes wearing proper attire (outlined below) and having hair pulled back and off of the face.

  • No food or drink (other than water) is permitted in the auditorium.

  • Gum is prohibited during class.

  • Just as teachers are expected to respect students, students are expected to respect each other, the teachers and the school/auditorium.

  • Dancers who consistently refuse to follow directions or respect their teachers/classmates may be asked to sit out of class, as outlined in the Behavior Policy below.

C. Behavior Policy:

We are committed to educate the students, model behaviors and help dancers grow with love and respect in this program.  If for any reason a student does not meet the expectations outlined above, Central School Dance enforces a 3-strike policy with regard to such student’s behavior.

  • Strike 1 is a warning: the student will still able to participate in dance class

  • Strike 2 is an in-class time-out: the student will be asked to sit out in the auditorium and observe. The instructor will determine the length of time for the time-out.

  • Strike 3 is an early dismissal from class: the student’s parents will be called to pick them up from class.

D. Arrival/Dismissal of Students:

Please be sure to drop off your child on time for class. There is an assistant at the front doors of Central School only 5 minutes before and after the scheduled class start time.  After that, the front doors are locked and the main office is closed.  Entering through the gym or any other door is NOT PERMITTED.

  • Parents/guardians are responsible for the child if they are dropped off for class more than 5 minutes before start time – students will NOT be allowed to wait in the lobby.

  • PARENTS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED IN THE BUILDING.  Please bring your child to the front doors for hand-off to the assistants.

  • Safety is our first priority: No child will be dismissed if the assistant does not physically see the parent/guardian picking up (e.g. students will not be permitted to walk to parked cars unless the driver gets out).

E. After Care:

If your child goes to the Central School After Care program on the day they attend class, they will be escorted by the After Care staff to and from their assigned class.  If you will be picking up your child from dance, you MUST sign them out from After Care.

F. Attendance Policy:

Consistency across classes is important. The fundamentals and techniques built over the course of the fall/winter are implemented in each dance number in the recital.

  • Dancers may only miss six (6) classes between September – December.

  • Dancers may only miss five (5) classes between January – March.

    • Repeated absences will result in a diminished role in the recital.

  • If a dancer misses four (4) out of the last six (6) classes, they will not be able to perform in the recital.

  • REQUIRED ATTENDANCE.  Please mark your calendar with the following dates, as attendance is required:

    • Technical Rehearsal: Tuesday April 23, 2024 (3:30 - 6:00 pm)

    • Dress Rehearsal: Friday, April 26, 2023 (3:30 - 6:00 pm)

    • Recital: Sunday April 28, 2023 (10:15am - 12:45 pm)

G. Medical Absences:

If your child has a medical exemption from participating in gym or recess during school hours, this will also apply to Central School Dance.  Please forward a copy of the doctor’s letter to the Dance Committee.  Additionally, the Dance Committee will require a copy of the medical release letter once the child is permitted by the doctor to return to all activities.
